The Internet
communication machine has created many opportunities.
You can work from the comfort of your own home, for
clients from all over the world. The course provided
concentrates on proofreading in this medium ie
documents received via e-mail or by disk. Hard copy
proofreading is not covered on this course but we do
itemise Proofreading Marks and Abbreviations for
reference purposes. We concentrate on proofreading and
editing for commercial clients, small businesses and
the individual.
The bulk of the course is
information/reference based. The tutoring side of the
tutorial comes into play during the exercises. The
exercises are varied, encompassing many different
projects eg proofreading web sites, extracts from
novels, manuals, documents, etc. Feedback is given
personally on every submitted exercise, together with
appropriate advice. Additionally, every effort is made
to provide ongoing support as and when required, even
when you have completed the tutorial. We are always
here to help. The course length, to an extent, depends
on how much time you put into the course yourself.
From experience, the average student takes a minimum
of 10 weeks to complete the course. You'll be supplied
with exercises until both parties are happy that you
can undertake projects on your own.
A certificate is issued
upon successful completion of the course.
So, to summarise, if you
are someone that wants to develop a career as a
freelance proofreader and/or editor, working from your
pc at home, receiving projects via e-mail, then this
is the course for you.
